NDMA Issues Nationwide Rain and Flood Alert

06 July, 2025 19:54

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has released a countrywide alert warning of heavy rains and possible flooding through July 10.

High Risk Areas Identified

According to an NDMA spokesperson, Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan may face flash floods and river swelling. “Low-level flooding is expected at Marala and Qadirabad points of the Chenab River.”

Rising River Levels Expected

Several rivers are expected to see increased water flow, including the Kabul, Indus, Chenab, Swat, Panjkora, Chitral, and Hunza. Northeastern Punjab, southern Balochistan, and Azad Kashmir are particularly at risk due to heavy rainfall.

Streams from the Pir Panjal range in Punjab may also cause flash flooding, while rivers like the Jhelum and Hunza could experience sudden surges.

Southern Balochistan Also at Risk

In Balochistan, streams from the Kirthar range may cause flooding in Awaran, Khuzdar, Jhal Magsi, Qila Saifullah, and Musakhel. The NDMA warns residents to avoid crossing flooded areas or submerged roads and bridges.

Safety Measures and Warnings

Residents in flood-prone and low-lying regions are advised to relocate livestock and valuables to safer locations. The NDMA also recommends preparing emergency kits with food, water, and medicines for 3–5 days.

Government Preparedness

Local authorities have been directed to ensure that pumps and drainage machinery are ready. Citizens should stay alert through TV and mobile updates.

NDMA further advises people to take preemptive safety measures and download the Pak NDMA Disaster Alert app for real-time weather updates and safety guidelines.
