How many Pakistanis applied for asylum in Europe in one year?

A recent report shows a big drop in the number of Pakistanis applying for asylum in European Union (EU) countries since 2023.

In October 2023, about 3,400 applications were being filed every month. But by October 2024, this number fell to around 1,900 applications per month.

In 2023, Pakistani nationals submitted the highest number of asylum requests ever, with a total of 30,440 applications across EU nations. The trend of Pakistanis seeking asylum started increasing in 2020 and peaked in April 2022, when 25,000 applications were recorded.

From October 2023 to October 2024, nearly 28,000 Pakistanis applied for asylum in European countries.

Among EU countries:

• Italy received the highest number of applications from Pakistanis.

• This was followed by France, Greece, and Germany.

This shift shows that the migration and asylum patterns of Pakistanis in Europe are changing.

Over 1 Million Pakistanis Went Abroad for Jobs in 2024-25

The report also revealed that more than one million Pakistanis went abroad for employment during the fiscal year 2024-25, as per the Economic Survey.

Here’s a provincial breakdown:
Punjab: 404,345 people went abroad for jobs.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: 187,000 workers went overseas.
Sindh: 60,424 citizens went abroad for employment.
