Mohsin Naqvi denies rumors about COAS becoming President
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has dismissed rumors claiming that Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Asim Munir wants to become the President of Pakistan.
Speaking on Thursday, Naqvi said there is no truth to such reports. “There has been no discussion, and no such idea exists about the President resigning or the COAS taking over the presidency,” he clarified.
Naqvi also said that the government knows exactly who is behind this false campaign against President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, and the Army Chief.
He added that President Zardari enjoys a strong and respectful relationship with the country’s armed forces leadership. Zardari himself has said he knows who is spreading these lies, why they are doing it, and who stands to benefit from such propaganda.
The Interior Minister emphasised that COAS Asim Munir’s sole focus is on strengthening and stabilising Pakistan.
“To those involved in this narrative, do whatever you wish in collaboration with hostile foreign agencies. As for us, we will do whatever is necessary to make Pakistan strong again, InshAllah,” Naqvi said.
This statement followed claims by some journalists and YouTubers that President Zardari would step down and hand over his powers to the field marshal.
