Historic Muharram Juloos Held in Askole, Gateway to K2

11 July, 2025 17:54

Askole, the gateway to the highest peaks, including K2, witnessed a funeral procession and coffin carrying on the occasion of the burial of the martyrs of Karbala (peace be upon them) on 13 Muharram 1447 AH, July 9, 2025.

The Juloos (procession) of Imam Hussain (a.s) commenced from the Central Mosque Askole and proceeded to the Akbaria Imam Bargah Askole.

According to sources, the procession began early in the morning and concluded at the Akbaria Imam Bargah at 4:00 PM.

Thousands of people participated in this sacred gathering to pay homage to Imam Hussain (a.s) and his loyal companions, who laid down their lives to preserve the values of humanity and Islam.

Along the route of the Juloos, various Sabeels (water stations) and Niaz (food offerings) were arranged at different stops to serve the mourners in the best possible way.

Furthermore, the District Management of Shigar provided excellent security, health, and medical facilities to ensure the success of the Askole Central Juloos 2025.

Participants and tourists, many of whom had paused their travels to attend, praised the management of the Askole Juloos Akbaria Committee for their tireless efforts day and night in maintaining the sanctity of Karbala.

The historic religious event concluded with a Niaz at the Askole Imam Bargah, organized by the local Akbaria Committee.

It should be noted that Askole, the capital of the Braldo region, has traditionally held the Juloos on the 13th of Muharram instead of the globally observed 10th. This unique timing is due to Askole’s status as the regional capital and gateway to K2, where many foreigners pause their journeys to participate in the central Juloos across Braldo.
