World War-Era Artifacts rere Hall
KARACHI – A case of theft has been reported at Frere Hall, one of Karachi’s most iconic historical landmarks, where several valuable World War-era artifacts were stolen during the Muharram holidays, according to ARY News.
The incident was reported at the Artillery Maidan Police Station by the Deputy Director of the Parks Department. When staff returned after the holidays, they found a broken rear window at the Director General’s office.
Among the missing items were five rare shields linked to World War history, along with cables, copper wiring, a DVD player, a speaker, and other electronics. Authorities believe the theft was carried out by an unidentified person.
Despite early efforts, no major progress has been made in recovering the stolen items. The incident has raised serious concerns about the security of historical artifacts in public buildings.
Frere Hall, built in 1865 during British rule, is known for its Indo-Gothic architecture, Sadequain’s ceiling murals, and its cultural significance. The loss of these artifacts is being seen as a major cultural setback for the city.
