Punjab Assembly Speaker Recognizes Opposition Rights

Lahore: Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik Ahmed Khan has said that we have recognized the opposition’s right; now whatever is decided regarding the sanctity of the House will be done in writing.

Speaking informally to journalists in Lahore, Malik Ahmed Khan said that the Speaker has to decide when a question is raised, and under the rules, opposition members were suspended. If the Speaker does not decide on disqualification, the matter goes to the Election Commission after 30 days.

He said that the opposition members came to the Punjab Assembly. I call it a good move. Ahmed Khan Bhachar said to give them a chance so that they can prepare with lawyers and resolve the matter. Both parties have agreed on the violation of human rights. Now both sides will have equal rights in the Punjab Assembly.

The Speaker of the Punjab Assembly said that he has recognized the opposition’s right; he will allow the protest, but the constitution must be respected. He said that the protest should not involve fighting or forming a group to attack the finance minister. Both the government and the opposition will write the agreement on paper and bring it. Whatever is decided regarding the sanctity of the House will be decided in writing. He will not make a decision now; he will make a decision in 3 days.

Malik Ahmed Khan further said that the Speaker of the KP Assembly has written to me regarding the suspension of opposition members. The Speaker of the KP Assembly has come in protest of a political party.
