15 July, 2025 13:27

A recent Gallup Pakistan survey reveals that half of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) residents believe Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz is outperforming their own CM, Ali Amin Gandapur. Only 38% think Gandapur is doing better than his predecessors, while nearly 47% want PT Founder to replace him as KP Chief Minister.

The survey, based on 3,000 face-to-face interviews conducted between February and March 2025, highlights increasing dissatisfaction with governance, economic conditions, and service delivery in KP.

Major concerns include limited healthcare access (63%), gas shortages (66%), and unreliable electricity (49%). Young people report a severe lack of public amenities, with 77% saying there are no parks, 81% no libraries, and 70% no community centers.

Post-election, only 43% observed any road development and 37% noticed improvements in transport. Among PTI supporters, 49% feel no significant development has taken place, and over half suspect corruption in development spending.

On accountability, 71% — including 62% of PTI voters — favor investigations into large-scale projects. Additionally, 59% blame the government for unemployment, and 73% believe jobs are awarded based on personal connections.

Security satisfaction stands at 58%, though 57% remain fearful of terrorism. Trust in the courts is low, but 84% support the Jirga system. The Sehat Card health initiative received 83% approval.

A strong majority back collaboration with the federal government, stricter social media regulations, and the repatriation of Afghan refugees.
