UK to roll out eVisas for Pakistani students and workers from July 2025
The UK government has announced that most student and worker visas will now be replaced with digital eVisas instead of physical visa stickers.
An eVisa is an online record of a person’s UK immigration status and any conditions that apply. It can be viewed by creating and logging into a UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) account.
This change is part of the UK’s plan to make its border and immigration system more secure, modern, and easier to use. Millions of people are already using eVisas for some immigration routes, and now the system is being expanded.
Why eVisas?
British High Commissioner Jane Marriott said the move will make it much easier for students and workers to prove their identity and visa status. She added that people will no longer have to give up their passports during the process, saving time and hassle.
Switching from a physical visa sticker to an eVisa will not change anyone’s immigration status or visa conditions.
Who Will Get eVisas?
eVisas are now being introduced for main applicants in these categories:
Students (including short-term study for up to 11 months)
Skilled Workers (including Health and Care workers)
Global Talent and International Sportspersons
Temporary Work routes (such as Charity Worker, Creative Worker, Religious Worker)
Youth Mobility Scheme
Global Business Mobility (Senior/Specialist Worker, Graduate Trainee, and others)
People can link their passport or travel document to their UKVI account. This makes travel and proving visa status to employers or landlords (in England) much easier.
Who Still Needs a Physical Visa Sticker?
Dependants and people applying for visas other than study or work (like visitor visas) will still need a physical visa sticker for now. Also, anyone with a valid physical visa does not need to take any action—their current visa remains valid.
The UK plans to roll out eVisas for all visa routes in the future, making the system completely digital and streamlined for everyone.
