Great news for Pakistanis: Uzbekistan work visas explained
Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis, Chaudhry Salik Hussain, and Uzbekistan’s Ambassador Ali Sher Takhtaev, have agreed to set up a joint working group to create employment opportunities for Pakistanis in Uzbekistan.
This decision was made during a meeting where both sides discussed various ideas to help Pakistanis find jobs in Uzbekistan.
Ambassador Takhtaev said that Uzbekistan and Pakistan share historic, cultural, religious, and trade ties. He highlighted that there are great opportunities for cooperation between the two countries in fields like information technology, medicine, agriculture, and labor.
He also added that joint efforts could bring economic prosperity to the region and create more jobs for people in both countries.
Chaudhry Salik Hussain shared that Pakistan has already launched successful pilot projects for labor supply with South Korea and Japan, and now the country is interested in starting a similar project with Uzbekistan.
Currently, over 12 million Pakistanis work abroad, making Pakistan one of the top 10 countries in the world for receiving remittances. In the fiscal year 2025, overseas Pakistanis sent a record $38.8 billion back home. The government now aims to increase this figure to $50 billion within the next 2 to 3 years.
This new partnership with Uzbekistan is seen as a positive step toward expanding job opportunities for Pakistani workers and boosting the national economy through higher remittances.
