Pakistan removed from the UK’s Air Safety List

In a big development, Pakistan has officially been removed from the UK’s Air Safety List. This decision was announced by the UK’s Air Safety Committee after several years of close work with the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority. This means that Pakistani airlines can now apply to operate flights to the United Kingdom once again.

All Pakistani air carriers are now eligible to apply for flight permits from the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). However, no airline can begin flying right away. Each one must go through a formal application process and meet all UK safety requirements.

Why Were Flights Banned?

The UK had banned Pakistani airlines in 2021 after raising safety concerns. Since then, Pakistani authorities worked hard to improve safety measures. This included training staff, improving equipment, and meeting international standards.

Jane Marriott, the British High Commissioner to Pakistan, thanked aviation teams from both countries. She said: “I’m grateful to aviation experts in the UK and Pakistan for their hard work. They helped improve safety and meet international standards. It may take some time before flights start again. But once they do, I look forward to flying with a Pakistani airline to visit my friends and family.”

Over 1.6 million people of Pakistani origin live in the UK. Many have family members in Pakistan. This update will make it easier for families to travel and meet again.

It will also help improve trade and tourism between both countries. The UK is Pakistan’s third-largest trading partner, and trade between them is worth £4.7 billion. The restart of flights will boost this relationship even more.

Although the ban is lifted, flights won’t start right away. Airlines such as PIA (Pakistan International Airlines) must now apply for permission. Once approved, they can resume flights to UK cities like London, Birmingham, and Manchester.
