Punjab e-Taxi 2025: Launch, installments plan & application details

17 July, 2025 16:33

The Punjab government is speeding up work on its much-awaited Electric Taxi Scheme, which aims to fight environmental pollution and promote eco-friendly transportation.

This will be Pakistan’s first electric taxi service, marking a big move towards cleaner and sustainable travel. The initiative is part of a global shift from fuel-based vehicles to electric ones.

Progress on the Project

Punjab Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan recently chaired a meeting to review the e-taxi project. Officials discussed different electric vehicle models, their prices, and technical details. They also talked about setting up charging stations across the province and ways to make the scheme more successful.

What’s Planned in the First Phase?

In the first phase, 1,100 electric taxis will be introduced in Punjab, including in Lahore.

Easy Installments for Buyers

The minister announced that these e-taxis will be available on interest-free, easy installment plans to make them affordable for the public. However, the exact price and monthly installment details are yet to be shared.

Who Can Apply?

The scheme will have simple eligibility requirements so that more people can benefit from it. A public awareness campaign about the project is expected to launch soon.

When Will It Start?

Although no official date has been announced yet, the Electric Taxi Scheme 2025 is likely to be launched later this year.

This eco-friendly step shows the Punjab government’s commitment to reducing air pollution and modernizing public transport in the province.
