Sindh Government to Support Newspaper Industry with Comprehensive Policy

Karachi: The Sindh government has decided to take comprehensive steps to support and strengthen the newspaper industry in the province.

After consultations with media owners, editors, journalistic organizations, and other stakeholders, the provincial government plans to introduce an integrated policy aimed at addressing key challenges and ensuring the development of the print media sector.

A high-level delegation of the Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE) met with Sindh’s Senior Minister, Sharjeel Inam Memon, in Karachi. The delegation included CPNE Sindh President Qazi Asad Abid, Secretary General Ghulam Nabi Chandio, and former Secretary General Ejaz Haq. Secretary Information Sindh, Nadeem-ur-Rehman Memon, and Director Advertisement Muhammad Yousuf Kabooro were also present at the meeting.

The CPNE delegation requested financial grants and asked the Sindh government to allocate a suitable plot for the CPNE office in Karachi. In response, Sharjeel Memon emphasized that the newspaper industry is the eyes and ears of society and a key pillar of democracy and accountability. He assured that the government is committed to ensuring respectable employment, protection, insurance, and professional training for journalists.

He further added that the new policy, developed in consultation with media institutions and journalist bodies, will not only strengthen the newspaper sector but also improve the welfare of journalists. Memon reiterated that journalism is the foundation of democracy and praised CPNE for its vital role in promoting press freedom. He assured that all CPNE-related issues will be addressed on a priority basis and affirmed the Sindh government’s full support for a free and independent media.
