Kashmiris mark Accession to Pakistan Day today
Kashmiris on both sides of the Line of Control and around the world are observing Accession to Pakistan Day today. This day reminds them of their deep-rooted connection with Pakistan and the ongoing struggle for their right to self-determination.
On July 19, 1947, the All Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference held a special meeting in Srinagar. It was hosted at the residence of Sardar Muhammad Ibrahim Khan in the Abi Guzar area. During this historic meeting, a resolution was passed for the full accession of Jammu and Kashmir to Pakistan.
The decision came nearly a month before Pakistan and India became independent nations on August 14 and 15, 1947. Under the Partition Plan, princely states were allowed to choose between India or Pakistan. The Kashmiri leaders, representing the will of the people, decided in favor of Pakistan.
They based their decision on strong cultural, religious, geographical, and economic ties with Pakistan. The people of Kashmir wanted to protect their political and religious identity. They feared oppression under Hindu rule in India and believed Pakistan was the natural home for Muslims of the region.
Even after 78 years, Kashmiris have not given up on the dream they committed to in 1947. The spirit of July 19 continues to live in the hearts of the people. They still stand firm with Pakistan, demanding a plebiscite and freedom from Indian occupation.
This day is more than just a memory. It is the base of their resistance. Every year, it reminds the world that Kashmiris want their voice heard and their decision respected.
Rallies, seminars, and prayers are being held across Pakistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) today. Leaders and activists are urging the international community to help Kashmiris achieve their right to choose their future.
The 1947 resolution is still alive in their hearts. It keeps them united and strong, and continues to inspire new generations.
