Punjab announces new rates for Dengue tests in private labs
The Punjab Health Department has announced fixed prices for dengue tests at private laboratories across the province. This step aims to make dengue testing more affordable as cases of the virus increase in many districts.
According to the official notification, the Complete Blood Count (CBC) test, which is typically performed first for dengue screening, will now cost only Rs 90. Other important tests like NS1 antigen, IgM, and IgG antibody tests have been set at Rs1,500.
Private labs have also been told to provide dengue test reports within 24 hours and to immediately follow these new rates.
Dengue fever is a dangerous viral infection spread by the Aedes aegypti mosquito, which breeds in standing water, especially during the monsoon season. It can cause high fever, headaches, joint pain, and in severe cases, bleeding complications.
Punjab and Sindh often face seasonal dengue outbreaks. To fight this, health officials are asking people to:
-
Remove stagnant water near homes.
-
Use mosquito repellents and nets.
-
Get tested quickly if dengue symptoms appear.
This move by the Punjab government is part of their efforts to control the spread of dengue and make healthcare more accessible.
