CM Balochistan Denies Marital Link Between Man, Woman Killed in Balochistan Incident
Quetta: Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti has clarified that the man and woman killed in the Sanjidi Daygari incident were not a married couple, contrary to claims circulated on social media.
Addressing a press conference in Quetta, the Chief Minister said that it was important for the public to know the facts. “It was widely reported on social media that the victims were a newlywed couple, but that is not true,” he stated. “The woman was a mother of five children, and the man who was killed also had four to five children. There was no marital relationship between them.”
Bugti added that the government had taken notice of the incident even before the video went viral and had directed the Inspector General of Police to arrest those involved. “So far, 11 people have been arrested, and raids are ongoing to apprehend more suspects. Everyone involved will be arrested and brought before the court,” he said.
He emphasized the state’s support for the victims, saying, “Since day one, I have said the state stands with the oppressed. In this case too, the state is with the victims.” The CM also confirmed the suspension of the local Deputy Superintendent of Police, stating that it was his duty to inform the government about the incident.
“This case is a test case for us,” Bugti added.
In response to a question, the Chief Minister acknowledged the existence of similar jirgas in the region. “Such jirgas do take place, and we have taken steps to stop them. We will not promote jirgas. We must act according to the Constitution,” he said.
