Mother’s Name to Be Added to New Pakistani Passports

The Directorate General of Immigration and Passports has announced a major change in Pakistan’s passport format. Going forward, all newly issued passports will include not just the father’s name but also the mother’s name of the passport holder.

Why the Change?

According to officials, this update is being introduced “in line with the international norms” and to “tackle the issues faced by single mothers and their children.” Currently, both the CNIC and passport only mention the father’s name. Including the mother’s name aims to resolve certain legal complications and better reflect family details.

Who Will Be Affected?

Only newly issued passports will feature this update. Existing passports will remain valid until their expiry date.

• Normal: Rs 4,500
• Urgent: Rs 7,500

10 Years Validity

• Normal: Rs 6,700

72-Page Passport (5 Years Validity)

• Normal: Rs 8,200
• Urgent: Rs 13,500

100-Page Passport (10 Years Validity)

• Normal: Rs 12,400
• Urgent: Rs 20,200
