21 July, 2025 22:14

The ruling coalition in Pakistan’s Senate has secured a two-thirds majority following the recent Senate elections. The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has emerged as the largest party in the Senate with 26 senators.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has become the second-largest parliamentary party, with 16 senators, and has also gained the support of 6 independent senators. Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) holds 20 seats, making it the third-largest party in the upper house.

In addition to these major parties, Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) has 4 senators, while both the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and the Awami National Party (ANP) have 3 senators each. The total number of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) senators has now reached 7.

With this new composition, the ruling alliance has achieved the numbers required to easily pass legislation, marking a significant shift in parliamentary power.
