Floods, Landslides Shut Down Roads in Gilgit-Baltistan

Heavy rainfall in the Diamer district of Gilgit-Baltistan caused flooding and landslides on Monday, forcing authorities to shut down the Karakoram Highway and Jalkad-Chilas Road for all traffic.

Several sections of both roads were blocked due to debris and water overflow, disrupting travel and isolating some areas.

Taking urgent notice of the situation, the Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan ordered rescue and relief efforts to begin immediately.

Teams from the District Administration and the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) have started road clearing and repair work to restore normal traffic.

Efforts are ongoing to reopen the roads and assist those affected by the heavy rain.
