Bad News for Electricity Consumers Across Pakistan, Including Karachi
Electricity consumers across the country, including Karachi, are likely to face higher bills as the relief under the Prime Minister’s affordable electricity package nears its end, sources revealed.
According to sources, the relief of Rs. 1.55 per unit provided under the quarterly adjustment is set to expire within the current month. This concession was being offered as part of the third quarterly adjustment of the previous fiscal year.
Previously, a reduction of up to Rs. 4.51 per unit had also ended last month. The Rs. 3.61 per unit relief specifically for Karachi was included in that adjustment.
The Rs. 1.90 per unit relief under the second quarterly adjustment of the previous fiscal year had already expired earlier. In addition, the relief of Rs. 1.71 per unit under the petroleum levy concluded in June.
Sources added that consumers of K-Electric were also benefiting from these reliefs under the quarterly adjustment and petroleum levy. However, the re-tendered Fuel Cost Adjustment (FCA) was only applicable to DISCOs (Distribution Companies) consumers.
