Lord Qurban Hussain Exposes Indian Aggression, Treaty Breach in House of Lords

24 July, 2025 13:21

London: A significant session of the British House of Lords was held on July 17, 2025, where rising tensions between India and Pakistan were discussed in detail. Members of the House called upon the UK government to play a more effective diplomatic role in addressing the situation in South Asia.

During the session, Lord Qurban Hussain delivered a powerful speech expressing deep concern over human rights violations in Indian-occupied Kashmir, the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, and acts of Indian aggression.

“The Kashmir issue is the oldest unresolved dispute on the agenda of the United Nations and remains the root cause of India-Pakistan tensions,” said Lord Hussain.

He described occupied Kashmir as “the most heavily militarized zone in the world,” with over 900,000 Indian military andparamilitary personnel deployed. He highlighted that these personnel operate with complete impunity under the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act.

Citing reports from Amnesty International and other global organizations, Lord Hussain noted that over 100,000 Kashmiris have been killed, with thousands injured or missing due to Indian military actions. He pointed out that thousands of Kashmiris remain imprisoned in India and occupied Kashmir, causing serious concern among international human rights bodies.

He accused Indian forces of direct involvement in unlawful detentions, torture, extrajudicial killings, mass rapes, fake encounters, and enforced disappearances. Lord Hussain revealed that more than 3,000 mass graves have been discovered in occupied Kashmir, which, he said, reflect serious human rights abuses.

Lord Hussain also addressed the recent escalation in the India-Pakistan conflict, which has alarmed many international observers. He stated that India launched “Operation Sindoor” following the killing of tourists and used it to justify aggressive actions. Pakistan, he said, rejected the accusations and offered a joint investigation.

He further stated that India unilaterally suspended the Indus Waters Treaty and violated Pakistan’s sovereignty by carrying out attacks inside Pakistani territory.

According to Lord Hussain, a ceasefire was reached on May 10, 2025, through mediation by President Trump. However, India’s refusal to restore the Indus Waters Treaty has pushed the region back toward conflict.

“India’s use of water as a weapon is a dangerous move,” he warned.

Lord Qurban Hussain concluded his speech by urging the United Kingdom to play a constructive role in the restoration of the Indus Waters Treaty and in ensuring regional peace.
