In a major government reform initiative, the delivery and printing of electricity bills across Pakistan are set to be managed by Pakistan Post. Under the new arrangement, all electricity distribution companies (DISCOs) will rely on the national postal service for bill distribution.
Trial Phase to Begin
The project will start with a trial run, where Pakistan Post staff will distribute electricity bills in one sub-division of each DISCO. Officials confirmed, “If the pilot project proves successful, it will be expanded nationwide in phases.”
Nationwide Rollout in Six Months
Authorities say the entire distribution system will be handed over to Pakistan Post within six months. In the final stage, Pakistan Post will also take over the printing of electricity bills.
Staff Readiness Ensured
According to reports, all Regional Postmaster Generals have received clear instructions to ensure their teams are well-prepared for the new responsibilities.
Discussions with K-Electric Underway
Simultaneously, talks are being held with K-Electric to potentially include Karachi’s power company under this system as well.
Goals of the Initiative
Described as a significant step toward better service delivery, this plan aims to ensure timely bill delivery, improve transparency, and reduce operational costs for DISCOs and the government alike.
