Pakistan ready for talks with India, says Foreign Office

24 July, 2025 20:49

Pakistan has said it is ready to hold talks with India on all unresolved matters, but the next step depends on India. This statement was made by Foreign Office Spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan during his weekly press briefing on Thursday.

He also shared that Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar is currently visiting the United States, where he will meet US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. They will talk about regional and international issues, including Iran and ceasefire efforts.

Khan confirmed that the Iranian president’s visit to Pakistan has not been cancelled—only the dates are being finalized.

He added that Pakistan and Iran enjoy strong ties, and many important matters will be discussed during the visit. However, it is still too early to say if the Pak-Iran gas pipeline will be part of those talks.

At the United Nations, Ishaq Dar spoke about Pakistan’s focus on sustainable development, economic reform, and climate change. He also raised key issues like the Indus Waters Treaty, the Kashmir dispute, and called for international cooperation.

Pakistan also led the UN Security Council in passing Resolution 2788, which supports peaceful solutions to global problems.

Regarding Palestine, Pakistan demanded an immediate ceasefire and the protection of hospitals, schools, and civilians. The country also condemned Israeli strikes on Syria, calling them a clear breach of international laws. Pakistan is ready to send aid to Gaza once access is allowed.

On the Thailand-Cambodia clashes, Pakistan urged for a peaceful solution. About the Afghan visa scam, Khan said investigations are ongoing. He noted that ties with Afghanistan have improved after Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi’s visit, though the presence of terrorists is still a concern.

Pakistan is also working on a visit from the Afghan Foreign Minister, and trade between the two countries is growing. Finally, Khan shared that Pakistan is seriously trying to join BRICS in the near future.
