TTAP opposition alliance to host APC in Islamabad on July 31
A group of opposition parties, including Imran Khan’s PTI, has come together under the name Tehreek Tahafuz Ayeen-e-Pakistan (TTAP). This new alliance has announced an “all-party conference (APC)” to be held on July 31.
Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar, a TTAP leader and former PPP member, shared the plan during a press conference with TTAP head Mahmood Khan Achakzai. He said that “the first step of our movement is an all-party conference” and that all people feeling oppressed by the current government are welcome to join.
Achakzai explained that this alliance isn’t for show. He said the goal is to bring back fair democracy and form a neutral election commission. He blamed “Shehbaz and company” for using force to stay in power, calling it undemocratic.
Religious scholar Allama Nasir Abbas also criticized the current system. He said if real democracy existed, unfair decisions about reserved seats wouldn’t have happened.
He was upset that no party spoke out and called the system a cruel game against the public. He announced a peaceful protest on August 5, warning the government not to try stopping it.
Khokhar also talked about the economic crisis. He said people can no longer afford basic needs, and sugar is being sold at Rs200 per kg, yet no one has been held responsible. He also spoke against the “freedom of speech crackdown”, saying, “those who dare to ask questions are made to suffer.”
He showed support for journalists and other oppressed groups, promising that TTAP would “peacefully protest and raise its voice for the people’s rights.”
