The Sindh government has officially declared that parking on roads across Karachi is now free of charge. A notification has been issued banning all parking fees on city roads.
Charging parking fees on any road in Karachi is now completely banned
According to the notification, parking charges will only apply in plazas, specified plots, or areas allocated by local councils.
No Department Can Collect Parking Fees
The notification also clarified, “No department under the Sindh government will be allowed to collect parking fees within the city.” Authorities have warned of strict action against any illegal fee collection from citizens.
KMC’s Earlier Initiative
Previously, the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) had made parking free at 32 locations, including areas in District South, Keamari, Central, Malir, Korangi, and East.
Free Parking Locations
Some notable free-parking areas include:
- District South: Jilani Centre Mobile Market, Naz Plaza to Amna Tower on MA Jinnah Road
- District Keamari: Sharjah Mall to Kohinoor Hall on Hub River Road
- District Central: Haroon Shopping Mall, Serena Market, Centrum Mall, and areas around Liaquatabad and North Karachi
- District East: 15 locations including shopping areas and markets
“Strict action will be taken against anyone found illegally collecting such charges from citizens.”
Exceptions to the Rule
The notification does clarify that 11 enclosed or walled areas in Districts South, Central, and East will still be allowed to charge parking fees under designated regulations.
