KP Issues Monsoon Travel Advisory to Prevent Tragedies
Amid ongoing monsoon rains, the Tourism Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has issued a strict travel advisory, urging tourists to avoid unnecessary visits to vulnerable regions from July 21 to 29. The warning comes due to a rising threat of flash floods, landslides, and overflowing rivers, particularly in popular tourist areas.
Heavy Rains to Continue Till July 31
According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), the current monsoon spell is expected to persist until July 31, increasing risks in the region.
The Recent Tragedy in Swat Should Serve as a Wake-Up Call
Secretary Tourism Dr. Abdul Samad, speaking to Aaj News, urged people to follow safety guidelines, stating:
“Despite repeated warnings, many tourists ignore safety advisories. The recent tragedy in Swat should serve as a wake-up call.”
He further advised that travelers should call helpline 1422 before making any trip to check real-time weather and road conditions.
Rescue of 500 Tourists After Landslide
Dr. Samad mentioned that a cloudburst-induced landslide blocked the Lake Saif-ul-Muluk Road, stranding tourists. Fortunately, the Kaghan Development Authority acted swiftly and rescued over 500 individuals.
Dozens of Homes Damaged by Floods
Recent landslides and floods have resulted in the complete destruction of 45 homes, while 247 more sustained partial damage.
Public Urged to Avoid Riverbanks and Follow Safety Guidelines
Both the Tourism Department and PDMA have appealed to the public to stay away from riverbanks and hazardous areas, urging strict compliance with safety measures to prevent further loss of life.
