Pakistan’s Remote-Sensing Satellite Ready for Launch from China

28 July, 2025 15:36

The Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has announced that Pakistan will launch a new remote-sensing satellite from China’s Xichang Satellite Launch Center on July 31. This mission aims to strengthen Pakistan’s abilities in resource monitoring and disaster management.

Boost for Earth Observation and National Projects

According to SUPARCO, the launch will be a significant step forward for Pakistan’s space programme, enhancing Earth observation and supporting a range of national-level applications.

The satellite will assist in precision agriculture, urban planning, infrastructure monitoring, and regional development, offering valuable data for national progress.

Disaster Alerts and Environmental Monitoring

SUPARCO added that the satellite would improve disaster preparedness by providing timely warnings for floods, earthquakes, and landslides. It will also help track glacier retreat, deforestation, and geo-hazard risks, as well as map transportation networks.

SUPARCO: “Launch Will Strengthen National Space Fleet”

In an official statement, SUPARCO said,
“The launch of this remote sensing satellite, alongside its integration with Pakistan’s existing fleet – including PRSS-1 (launched July 2018) and EO-1 (launched January 2025) – will enhance the nation’s space-based infrastructure in line with the National Space Policy and SUPARCO’s Vision 2047, aiming to position Pakistan as a regional leader in space technology and innovation.”

Part of a Larger Space Vision

This satellite will feature advanced imaging and data acquisition abilities, helping in environmental monitoring and resource management under different weather and terrain conditions.

Recent Progress in Space Missions

Pakistan has made several strides in space research recently. Earlier this year, China launched Pakistan’s EO-1 satellite, designed to help with disaster prediction. In May 2024, Pakistan’s first lunar satellite was launched via China’s Chang’E-6 mission. Additionally, Pakistan plans to send a lunar rover on China’s Chang’E-8 mission in 2028.
