Pakistan Announces New Fuel Prices: Petrol Down, Diesel Up

01 August, 2025 00:18

The Pakistani government has announced a revision in fuel prices, bringing a mixed outcome for consumers as petrol becomes cheaper while various diesel products see a price increase. The new prices were officially released late Monday night and are effective immediately.

According to the Ministry of Finance, the price of petrol has been reduced by Rs. 7.54 per litre, setting the new rate at Rs. 264.61. This reduction comes as a slight relief for commuters and private vehicle owners amid continued inflationary pressure on essential goods.

In contrast, the price of high-speed diesel (HSD), commonly used in public transport and heavy-duty vehicles, has seen a Rs. 1.48 increase, raising the cost to Rs. 285.83 per litre.

Light diesel oil (LDO), used in industrial and agricultural machinery, has also become more expensive, increasing by Rs. 2.60 per litre, now priced at Rs. 170.36.

Similarly, kerosene oil, which is widely used in rural areas for cooking and heating, has become costlier by Rs. 4.13 per litre, with the new price fixed at Rs. 185.46.

The Ministry attributed the adjustments to fluctuations in international oil markets and the current exchange rate. Officials said the changes are part of a bi-weekly pricing mechanism designed to reflect global fuel trends while ensuring minimal burden on local consumers.

The price reduction in petrol has been welcomed by the public; however, the hike in diesel and kerosene prices is expected to increase transport and household energy costs, particularly in rural areas.

No statement was made regarding subsidies or relief plans in response to the rising costs of diesel products.
