Petrol Price Drops in Pakistan: Check New Rates – August 2025

01 August, 2025 14:29

In a welcome development for millions of Pakistanis, the federal government has announced a Rs7.54 per litre reduction in petrol prices. This marks a significant shift after four consecutive hikes, providing much-needed relief to middle and lower-income groups.

New Prices for August

“The price of petrol drops to Rs264.61 per litre,” while high-speed diesel (HSD), used mainly in transport and agriculture, has seen a slight increase of Rs1.48 and now stands at Rs285.83 per litre. This decision is expected to positively impact transportation and food prices, potentially easing inflation.

Global Market Changes Behind Cut

The price reduction comes in response to a notable drop in global oil prices and a decline in the petrol import premium, which fell sharply from $9.70 to $6.75 per barrel. This signals “a clear sign that international pressure is easing and Pakistanis are reaping the benefits.”

No GST Applied Despite High Tax Collection

Despite collecting nearly Rs98 per litre in taxes, the government has maintained a zero percent general sales tax (GST). Officials stated the pricing changes were made “after consultation with OGRA and a close review of global market trends,” aiming to minimize the burden on consumers.
