Government Considering Further Steps to Address Sugar Crisis

Government Sugar Crisis Address Steps
Islamabad: The government is actively considering additional measures to address the ongoing sugar crisis in the country.
According to sources, sugar mills have been given a deadline to begin the crushing season from November 1. However, mill owners are reportedly demanding an increase in the ex-mill price in order to start the crushing season earlier.
Sources warn that any delay in the crushing season may lead to problems in sugar availability across the country.
To stabilize supply, the government has placed a final order for the import of 100,000 tons of sugar. Additionally, a tender has been issued for the import of another 100,000 tons, with approval granted for the total import of 300,000 tons of sugar.
In addition, Sugar imports are expected to begin in September.
Meanwhile, the federal government has directed provincial authorities to launch a crackdown on hoarders to prevent artificial shortages and price manipulation.
