Iran Is Pakistan's Brotherly Country, We Will Soon Achieve $10 Billion Trade Target: PM
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated that Iran is Pakistan’s brotherly country and expressed confidence that the two nations will soon achieve a $10 billion trade target.
In a joint press conference with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, the Prime Minister warmly welcomed Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and the Iranian delegation on their first official visit to Pakistan. Highlighting the close brotherly and friendly ties between the two countries, Sharif expressed appreciation for Iran’s sentiments toward the Pakistani people.
Strong Condemnation of Israeli Aggression and Call for Peace
Prime Minister Sharif highlighted Pakistan’s strong condemnation of Israeli aggression against Iran, stating there was no justification for Israel’s actions. He paid tribute to the martyred Iranian generals, scientists, and civilians and praised the Iranian military and people for their brave resistance. He noted that the Iranian missile barrage had severely exposed Israel’s defense system. Sharif emphasized Iran’s right to acquire nuclear power for peaceful purposes and reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for Iran’s principled position.
Sharif also condemned the ongoing violence in Gaza and called for an immediate ceasefire. He urged the religious world and the global community to unite against atrocities, criticizing Israel’s use of food as a weapon against Palestinians. Pakistan and Iran have both raised their voices in support of Palestinians. Furthermore, Sharif expressed gratitude for Iran’s support on Kashmir and highlighted the similarities between the situations in Gaza and occupied Kashmir, describing the valley of Kashmir as stained with the blood of oppressed Kashmiris.
Economic and Security Cooperation Between Pakistan and Iran
The Prime Minister expressed optimism about bilateral economic cooperation and stressed the need to convert memorandums of understanding with Iran into formal agreements. He reaffirmed the goal to achieve a $10 billion trade target soon. Sharif emphasized that Pakistan and Iran share a common stance against terrorism and the importance of opening highways of peace and development in the region. He underlined that sustainable peace is essential for regional development and prosperity.
Iran’s Commitment to Muslim Unity and Regional Stability
In his remarks, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian began by citing a verse from the Quran, emphasizing the critical importance of Muslim unity in the current era. He expressed gratitude for the hospitality extended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the Pakistani people and described Pakistan as his second home.
President Pezeshkian highlighted the deep cultural and religious ties between Pakistan and Iran, citing the poetry of Allama Iqbal as a guiding force promoting unity within the Muslim Ummah. He stressed that good relations with Pakistan are a cornerstone of Iran’s foreign policy.
The Iranian President outlined ongoing efforts to advance bilateral relations in political, economic, and cultural fields. He noted the exchange of memorandums of understanding in various sectors and expressed determination to finalize these agreements. Steps are underway to establish joint economic zones and boost border trade, alongside cooperative efforts to improve border security.
President Pezeshkian warned against Israel’s agenda to destabilize the region, pointing to aggression in Gaza, Lebanon, and Syria as evidence of Israel’s malicious ambitions. He called on Muslim countries to unite in pursuit of regional peace.
Both leaders reiterated their commitment to strengthening Pakistan-Iran ties, promoting regional stability, and addressing shared challenges through cooperation and unity.
