PM Shehbaz, Pezeshkian Vow Stronger Bilateral Relations

Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif held a key meeting with Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian in Islamabad. The two leaders discussed ways to strengthen Pakistan-Iran bilateral ties and emphasized the importance of holding the 22nd Pak-Iran Joint Economic Commission soon.

A delegation-level meeting was also held, attended by Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, and other federal ministers. Both sides exchanged views on regional and global issues.

According to the joint statement, the leaders also participated in a ceremony for the signing of MoUs and agreements aimed at boosting cooperation. Talks focused on increasing trade between the two countries, and both leaders expressed satisfaction over the progress made in recent trade negotiations.

The two nations reaffirmed their commitment to expanding bilateral trade to $10 billion in the near future.

Both sides expressed deep concern over the situation in Gaza and reiterated their demand for an immediate ceasefire and urgent humanitarian assistance. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s full support for an independent Palestinian state.

Prime Minister Sharif thanked Iran for its continued support for the oppressed people of Indian-occupied Kashmir.

The two leaders jointly called on the international community to take immediate steps to resolve the Gaza crisis.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also hosted a luncheon in honor of the Iranian President and his delegation.
