How to pay Karachi E-Challan as camera captures violations automatically

06 August, 2025 17:04

Karachi has officially launched a new camera-based traffic challan system as part of its Safe City project. This new setup uses HD cameras to catch traffic rule violations and send e-challans (digital fines) without stopping the driver.

What Is the New System?

The system is called Traffic Regulation and Citation System (TRACS). It is designed by the Sindh Traffic Police to make traffic monitoring more transparent and reduce human involvement.

How It Works

More than 1,300 high-definition cameras are now active on main roads and intersections of Karachi. These cameras automatically detect:

  • Red signal violations

  • Overspeeding

  • Using mobile phones while driving

  • Wrong or illegal parking

  • Not wearing seatbelts or helmets

When a violation is detected, the camera captures a photo with the time and location. The system then sends an e-challan to the violator’s home address. The same challan can also be seen online.

How to Check and Pay Challans

To check your traffic challan online, go to echallan.psca.gop.pk. You can search using your:

  • Vehicle registration number

  • CNIC

  • Chassis number

You can pay online and get a 50% discount if paid within 15 days. After 21 days, the fine doubles. Not paying within 3 months may result in license suspension or even CNIC blocking after 6 months.

Common Violations and Codes

The most common traffic violations include:

  • No helmet or seatbelt

  • Overspeeding

  • Using phone while driving

  • Jumping red lights

  • Wrong parking

Each offense has its own code, and the full list is available online for public view.

For Help or Questions

If you need help or want to complain, call the Karachi Traffic Police helpline at 1915. It works 24/7 and provides help about fines, e-challans, and other updates.

What’s Next?

More updates are expected in 2025, including:

  • New payment options like UBL Omni

  • More camera coverage

  • A mobile app for notifications and payments
