Indian Government Calls Out Fake News by Indian Media

06 August, 2025 00:49

Indian media has once again come under fire for spreading false news about the situation on the Line of Control (LoC) with Pakistan.

Several Indian news channels and social media accounts claimed that Pakistani and Indian fighter jets were flying over the LoC, and that Pakistani forces had carried out unprovoked firing. However, these reports were quickly dismissed as fake by none other than India’s own state-run news agency, ANI, and official defense sources.

Indian defense authorities confirmed there was no unusual military activity, no airspace violation, and no ceasefire breach. They stated clearly that the reports were baseless rumors with no connection to the ground reality. This rare contradiction between Indian media and the Indian state itself has once again exposed how sections of the media are being used as tools for spreading misinformation.

This isn’t a new pattern. During past military operations, such as “Operation Sindoor,” Indian media was heavily criticized for false reporting, which not only hurt India’s credibility internationally but also triggered public backlash within the country. Increasingly, Indian media is seen as promoting state-sponsored narratives rather than reporting facts.

Security officials in Pakistan have confirmed that the situation at the LoC remains normal and stable, with no unusual movements or incidents. The intention behind these fake news stories, analysts say, appears to be the creation of fear, confusion, and regional tension. Indian media’s pattern of false reporting seems aimed at destabilizing peace along the border.

Today, even Indian citizens and government bodies are calling out the media for publishing scripted narratives instead of facts. This growing mistrust reflects a deep crisis of credibility within India’s mainstream news ecosystem. As always, viewers are urged to rely on verified information from official sources and avoid sharing unconfirmed stories, especially when they relate to sensitive issues like national security or cross-border tensions.
