Pakistan’s first urban electric train SRT completes successful trial in Lahore - Check Fares & more details
Pakistan has taken a big step in modern public transport with the successful trial of its first electric urban train — the Super Autonomous Rapid Transit (SRT) — in Lahore.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif personally oversaw the test run of the SRT, which went from Ali Town to Muslim Town, running alongside regular traffic. She checked the train’s features and expressed satisfaction with its air-conditioned coaches and modern facilities.
According to Transport Minister Bilal Akbar, the SRT is fully electric and can travel up to 40 kilometers on a single charge. It currently has three coaches with a capacity of 320 passengers, and this can be expanded to four coaches.
The train is built by Chinese company Norinco International, which has made similar trains for China, Turkey, Abu Dhabi, and more.
Maryam Nawaz said this train will help reduce pollution, ease traffic problems, and improve the image of Lahore. She also announced that the same type of electric train will be introduced soon in Faisalabad and Gujranwala.
This development follows the earlier success of the Orange Line Train, marking another step forward in Punjab’s transport system.
