Sale and Use of Plastic Horns Banned Ahead of Independence Day

07 August, 2025 12:33

Islamabad’s district administration has officially banned the sale and use of plastic horns (bajay) for the entire month of August in anticipation of Pakistan’s Independence Day celebrations.

An official notification states that the ban aims to control noise pollution and prevent the public nuisance caused by excessive horn blowing, which typically increases during this time of year.

The Deputy Commissioner of Islamabad has instructed all assistant commissioners and magistrates to initiate immediate crackdowns throughout the capital. Officers have been ordered to seize plastic horns from roadside vendors and take strict action against anyone violating the ban. The DC has also warned that if horns are found being sold in any area, the officer in charge will be held accountable.

Daily operations will be conducted until August 14 to enforce the ban. Legal action will be taken against violators.

Plastic horns are a popular item among children during August, but their excessive use has prompted numerous citizen complaints, citing mental stress and discomfort caused by the constant noise.

Residents have largely welcomed the decision and are calling for similar bans to be implemented in other cities across the country.
