May 9 Cases: Shah Mahmood Qureshi Acquitted, Yasmin Rashid and Others Sentenced to 10 Years
LAHORE: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Lahore has acquitted senior Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi, while handing down 10-year prison sentences to several other party leaders in connection with two cases related to the May 9 incidents.
According to details, Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) judge Manzar Ali Gul conducted the hearing of the May 9 cases at Kot Lakhpat Jail. The court delivered its verdict on the cases of vehicle burning outside Rahat Bakery and setting fire to Shadman police station on May 9. Shah Mahmood Qureshi was acquitted in both cases.
The Anti-Terrorism Court sentenced PTI leaders Yasmin Rashid, Mian Mehmood ul Rashid, Ijaz Chaudhry, and Umar Sarfraz Cheema to 10 years imprisonment each in both cases.
The court also sentenced Alia Hamza Malik and Sanam Javed to 5 years imprisonment each.
It is worth mentioning that a few days ago, the Anti-Terrorism Court had also sentenced Umar Ayub, Shibli Faraz, and others in the May 9 arson and protest cases.
