President, PM Pay Tribute to Minorities on National Minorities Day

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif have paid tribute to the contributions of minorities for Pakistan on the National Minorities Day that is being observed across Pakistan today to honor the contributions of religious minorities.

In his message, President stated that today is a day to renew our commitment to protecting the rights of minorities and promoting national harmony. He paid tribute to the services of minority communities.

He said that minorities have rendered outstanding services in various fields including the armed forces, judiciary, and civil services. The patriotism and contributions of minorities are a matter of pride for the whole nation. The Constitution of Pakistan guarantees equal rights to all citizens without any discrimination.

He further stated that the Constitution safeguards the political, economic, religious, social, and cultural rights of minorities. The government has taken practical steps for the welfare and empowerment of minorities.

Asif Ali Zardari mentioned that in 2009, during his first presidential term, August 11 was declared as Minorities Day. He affirmed that efforts will continue for the empowerment, progress, and welfare of minorities.

The President added that a prosperous Pakistan will be built through brotherhood, harmony, and unity.

PM Shehbaz Sharif’s Message

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif in his message has said that many brave Pakistanis belonging to minority communities have laid down their lives for the country.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated that under the Constitution of Pakistan, minorities are entitled to all political, economic, and social rights.

He emphasized that protecting the rights of minorities is not only a constitutional responsibility but also a religious duty.

He said that the speech of Quaid-e-Azam on August 11, 1947, is a guarantee of a secure future for minorities in Pakistan. Many sons of the soil from minority communities have sacrificed their lives in the defense of the nation.

Shehbaz Sharif affirmed that regardless of color or race, we stand united and reaffirm our commitment to fulfill our national duties with dedication.
