Punjab announces new OPD timings for govt hospitals

12 August, 2025 15:45

The Punjab government has announced longer working hours for outpatient departments (OPDs) in all government teaching hospitals across the province.

According to the Punjab Health Department, OPDs will now remain open from 8 am to 3 pm on Monday to Thursday and Saturday. Earlier, they used to close at 2 pm. On Fridays, the timing will be 8 am to 1 pm.

This decision aims to help more patients get treatment without facing long waits or limited hours. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has been introducing several measures to improve healthcare in the province.

Earlier in June, the CM launched Phase 2 of the “Clinic on Wheels” project in Lahore. This initiative sends fully equipped mobile clinics to different areas, especially villages and remote regions, to provide free medical services.

In the first phase, 245 mobile units were active. Now, the number has increased to 911 mobile clinics across Punjab. These units work like small hospitals, with doctors, lady health visitors, and trained staff offering treatment, tests, medicines, and even minor procedures.

So far, more than 10 million people have received free treatment under the program. Services include maternal care, vaccinations, family planning, diabetes and blood pressure checkups, and more.

Maryam Nawaz says the goal is simple: “Bring the hospital to the people, so they don’t have to take time off work or travel long distances for basic healthcare.”
