The Punjab government has received more than 365,000 applications for its ‘Apni Zameen, Apna Ghar’ housing scheme, which aims to give free land to low- and middle-income families in 19 districts across the province.

According to Punjab Housing Minister Bila Yasin, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz will distribute 2,000 plots among the applicants after an initial screening and balloting process.

The program also offers interest-free loans of up to Rs 1.5 million under the ‘Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar’ initiative to help families build their homes.

In the first phase, plot distribution will include 730 plots in Jhelum, 388 in Kasur, 257 in Faisalabad, 218 in Lodhran, and 130 in Okara. Smaller numbers of plots will also be given in other districts, including Layyah, Bhakkar, Sahiwal, Sargodha, Khushab, Bahawalnagar, Rajanpur, Mandi Bahauddin, Attock, Gujrat, Bahawalpur, Vehari, Jhang, and Chiniot.

Eligibility
The scheme is for families earning less than Rs 50,000 a month, living in rented houses, and registered as the head of household in NADRA records.

Applicants must be permanent residents of Punjab, own no more than 5 Marlas of land in cities or 10 Marlas in rural areas, have no serious criminal record, no unpaid bank loans, and be registered with the National Socio-Economic Registry (NSER) with a PMT score of 60 or less.

The Punjab government has also announced a bigger plan to build around 100,000 affordable houses every year in cities like Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Multan, and Sargodha, expanding later to the whole province.

Officials say the goal is to provide safe, affordable housing to low-income families and improve living conditions across Punjab.
