Heavy Rains, Flash Floods Wreak Havoc Across Gilgit-Baltistan

Heavy rains and flash floods have caused widespread destruction in various parts of Gilgit-Baltistan, resulting in multiple casualties and significant damage to property, roads, and crops.

According to official sources, three people, including a woman, lost their lives in Khaltie and Ghizer due to rain-related incidents. In the Diamer district, two individuals were swept away by flash floods in the Buner area. A child was also injured as a result of a landslide on Babusar Highway, which has been partially blocked.

Floodwaters in Ghizer destroyed several houses, schools, and large areas of agricultural land, adding to the suffering of local residents who rely heavily on farming for their livelihood.

The Gilgit-Baltistan provincial government has stated that rescue and relief efforts are currently underway. Emergency teams are working to restore road access, provide shelter, and deliver essential supplies to the affected areas.

Authorities are being urged to take long-term measures to protect vulnerable communities in the region, where seasonal rains and floods have become a recurring threat.
