Government announces two-day school holiday due to heavy rains

15 August, 2025 14:52

Azad Kashmir will keep all schools closed for two days because of heavy rains and landslides. The government announced that both government and private educational institutions will remain closed on August 15 and 16.

Officials say the decision was made for safety reasons, as continuous rain has increased the risk of flooding and landslides in different areas.

The situation has already turned serious in some parts. In Muzaffarabad’s Naseerabad Tehsil, a sudden flood after a cloudburst claimed the lives of six members of the same family. In Bagh, streams overflowed due to heavy rain, and in Samahni, the Bhimber stream is at dangerous flood levels.

Gilgit-Baltistan has also been badly affected, where 10 people lost their lives due to rain, landslides, and floods.

Authorities say schools will reopen once the weather improves and conditions return to normal.
