Karachi Reels After Record Independence Day Aerial Firing Casualties

15 August, 2025 00:42

A record number of people were killed and injured in Karachi during this year’s Independence Day celebrations due to aerial firing.

According to the police surgeon, this is the first time in the city’s history that such a large number of casualties have occurred on August 14. Three people lost their lives, including an 8-year-old girl, and 114 others were injured.

The highest number of injured victims, 43 in total, were brought to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center received 41 injured individuals, while the Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Trauma Center treated 30 more.

Officials confirmed that the number of casualties this year surpassed previous records. Last year, aerial firing on Independence Day left two people dead and 100 injured, but this year’s toll was even higher. The widespread and reckless use of firearms during celebrations continues to put lives at risk and highlights the urgent need for stricter enforcement and public awareness.
