Azad Kashmir Schools to Remain Closed for Five Days – Here’s the Reason

18 August, 2025 14:57

The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) government has declared a five-day closure of schools across the region due to worsening weather conditions.

According to a notification issued by the Elementary and Secondary Education Department, “the public and private educational institutions will remain closed from August 19 to 23.” The decision was taken in light of the continuous heavy rains that have raised fears of flooding in rivers and nullahs, as well as the risk of landslides.

The State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) also issued a weather update for the next 24 hours, warning that “cloudy weather with heavy to very heavy falls is expected at scattered places in Azad Jammu & Kashmir.”

This announcement follows an earlier closure of educational institutions on August 15 and 16, when the Education Department had declared holidays due to similar threats of flooding and landslides. The official notification at that time confirmed that “Secretary Elementary and Secondary Education has approved the closure of all government and private educational institutions in Azad Kashmir on August 15, 16, 2025.”

With heavy rains persisting, authorities continue to monitor the situation closely to ensure the safety of students and the public.
