Pakistan Prepares Trade Recommendations for US Tariffs

Islamabad – The Ministry of Commerce in Pakistan is finalizing recommendations regarding exports to the United States in light of the Trump-era tariffs. According to sources, these recommendations will soon be presented to the Prime Minister.

All stakeholders have welcomed the existing 19% tariff on Pakistani products, calling it a positive step. The recommendations were developed in consultation with major exporters and other industry stakeholders.

Sources revealed that bilateral trade between Pakistan and the United States has increased by 16%. During the fiscal year 2024-25, trade between the two countries reached $7.598 billion.

Pakistan’s exports to the U.S. amounted to $5.836 billion, while imports from the U.S. were recorded at $1.763 billion.

Textiles and rice are Pakistan’s top export items to the American market. On the other hand, U.S. exports to Pakistan saw a 40% increase over the past year.

The U.S. mainly exports cotton, iron and steel scrap to Pakistan. Other key American exports include soybeans, coal, chemicals, wood pulp, turbo jets, gas turbines, automatic data processing machinery, petroleum oil (excluding crude), and medical instruments.
