PM Orders Faster Relief After Deadly Floods in Pakistan
Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif has expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives caused by the recent heavy rains and floods across Pakistan. He called for speeding up relief and rehabilitation efforts in all affected areas.
“There is no greater pain than the loss of human lives,” the Prime Minister said, while offering his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives.
According to the Prime Minister, more than 700 people have died during this year’s monsoon season, with over 350 deaths in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa alone. He said that cloudbursts in northern areas caused widespread destruction and left “every eye in tears.”
He noted that many people have been injured in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa due to flash floods and heavy rainfall, and the damage from cloudbursts has resulted in both human and financial loss.
The Prime Minister assured that the federal government is working closely with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) governments to face these challenges together.
He also ordered the immediate restoration of electricity feeders in all affected areas and said that aid and recovery work is being done without any discrimination.
“All available resources are being used to provide relief to the people,” he added.
The Prime Minister also addressed the issue of illegal construction near rivers. “Hotels and houses were built inside rivers. This is a serious human mistake and cannot be ignored,” he said. “There must be a strict policy to stop such violations.”
He warned that two more rain spells are expected, and the country must prepare in advance.
“Pakistan is our shared home—we must work together to protect and improve it,” the Prime Minister said.
He praised the Pakistan Army for their dual role—fighting terrorists on one side and helping flood victims on the other.
