DG ISPR slams Sohail Warraich over ‘fabricated’ story about Field Marshal Asim Munir
Director General ISPR, Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, has strongly denied reports that Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Asim Munir gave an interview to journalist Sohail Warraich during his recent visit to Brussels.
The clarification came after a private media group published a column by Warraich, claiming the army chief had said that political reconciliation could only happen if a “sincere apology” was made. The article did not name anyone directly but hinted it might be about PTI and its jailed leader Imran Khan.
DG ISPR rejected the report, saying the army chief made no political comments during his Brussels trip. “No political statement was made, nor was there any talk of an apology,” he said.
He criticized Warraich for spreading a false story for personal benefit and called it irresponsible journalism. He also said the publishing group should have checked facts before releasing it.
The ISPR chief reminded that the events of May 9 are a national matter. “Planners, facilitators, and those who carried out the violence must be held accountable under the law,” he added.
DG ISPR further mentioned that hundreds of people attended the Brussels event and took photos with the army chief, but no political issues were discussed.
