Ruet-e-Hilal Committee to Meet Tomorrow for Rabiul Awwal Moon Sighting

23 August, 2025 18:36

The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will convene tomorrow (Sunday) to sight the moon of Rabiul Awwal. If the crescent is sighted, Eid Milad-un-Nabi (12th Rabiul Awwal) will fall on September 5.

The meeting, chaired by Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, will be attended by religious scholars along with officials from the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Meteorological Department, and SUPARCO. At the same time, zonal and district moon sighting committees will gather across the country, sending verified testimonies to the central body for a final decision.

According to SUPARCO, there is a strong likelihood of the moon being sighted on August 24. A spokesperson stated, “The moon is expected to be born on August 23 at 11:06 am, and by the evening of August 24, it will be over 32 hours old.” With nearly 45 minutes between sunset and moonset in coastal areas, conditions are considered favourable for visibility.

If sighting is confirmed, the first day of Rabiul Awwal will begin on August 25, and Eid Milad-un-Nabi will be celebrated on September 5, which the federal government has already declared a public holiday.
