Rabi ul Awwal Moon Not Sighted, Eid Milad-un-Nabi on 6 Sept

24 August, 2025 21:04

The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, chaired by Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad, officially announced that the Rabiʽ ul-Awwal moon was not sighted in Pakistan. As a result, the first day of Rabiʽ ul-Awwal will be Tuesday, August 26, 2025, and Eid Milad-un-Nabi (the Prophet’s birth anniversary) will be observed on Saturday, September 6, 2025.

The committee held its zonal sessions across major cities, including Karachi, Lahore, Quetta, and Peshawar, involving representatives from the Pakistan Meteorological Department and the Ministry of Religious Affairs to collect moon-sighting reports nationwide.

Earlier, Suparco had forecasted that the new moon would be born at 11:06 am on August 23, making it over 32 hours old by sunset on August 24—a time window generally considered suitable for crescent visibility. Coastal regions, with a roughly 45-minute time gap between sunset and moonset, could have provided clear conditions, but no confirmed sightings were reported.

According to Islamic lunar calendars like the Umm al-Qura (Saudi Arabia), Rabiʽ ul-Awwal 1447 AH is expected to begin on August 24, 2025, placing the prophet’s birthday on September 4.

However, Pakistan’s lunar calendar follows actual moon sightings, leading to the official decision of September 6 for Eid Milad-un-Nabi.

Muslims across Pakistan will observe the 12th of Rabiʽ ul-Awwal—Eid Milad-un-Nabi—as a public holiday, marked by religious gatherings, processions, naats, and community prayers.
