Overseas Pakistanis to get online car transfer service, no embassy visit needed
Overseas Pakistanis will soon be able to buy, sell, register, and transfer their vehicles in Pakistan without visiting embassies or sending lengthy power of attorney documents to relatives.
Director General of Excise and Taxation, Umar Sher Chattha, has started work on a system that will allow biometric verification for overseas citizens. A request has already been sent to NADRA to link the biometric service under the Pak-ID system for this purpose.
According to officials, the identity cards of citizens and their vehicle data are already connected, so it is technically possible to process such requests online. Once NADRA gives approval, overseas Pakistanis will be able to directly register or transfer vehicles from abroad.
Earlier, the process required embassy verification and authorisation letters, which caused long delays and sometimes legal issues. Currently, thousands of vehicle transfer cases are pending due to the absence of an overseas biometric system.
This new step is expected to save time, reduce paperwork, and make things much easier for Pakistanis living abroad.
