Punjab govt introduces garbage tax – Check monthly rates for homes, shops
The Punjab government has started collecting a new garbage tax as part of its “Clean Punjab” initiative, aiming to improve cleanliness across the province. This tax has already been implemented in upscale and commercial areas, following approval from the Punjab cabinet.
What Is the Garbage Tax?
The garbage tax will be charged monthly and varies depending on:

Garbage Tax for Houses
Here’s how much residents will pay:
Urban Areas:

5-marla house: Rs300
-
5–10 marla house: Rs500
-
10 marla–1 kanal: Rs1,000

2–4 kanals: Rs2,000

Over 4 kanals: Rs5,000
-
Rural Areas:

Up to 10 marla: Rs200
-
10 marla–2 kanals: Rs400
-
Over 2 kanals: Rs400

Urban Areas:

Small shops: Rs500

Medium shops: Rs1,000

Large commercial centers: Rs3,000

Medium shops: Rs700

Large commercial centers: Rs2,000

Who Will Collect the Tax?
The Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) has started distributing bills. Their revenue and operations teams will manage the distribution and collection of this new tax.
The initiative is designed to create a cleaner Punjab by generating funds for better waste management services.
